Welder Training

The welding certification training program is of 10 weeks duration and meets every day of the week Monday through Friday from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm for a total of 250 hours for at total of 12 academic credits.

The program fee includes all safety equipment, books and welding materials and AWS (American Welding Society) certifications for each course. The Entry level and Advanced Level welding courses are pathways for participants to earn credit, hands on training and AWS certification as a certified welder.

The training program comprises of both hands on training and limited lecture on welding process theory. Students gain self confidence in the hands on training portion of the courses in all the major welding processes. The accelerated beginning course also identified in the catalog as WELD 115, conforms to AWS QC 10 standards on welding steel and aluminum plate. The accelerated advanced course listed as WELD 215, meets AWS QC 11 standards on welding steel pipe, carbon tube, stainless steel and aluminum tube.


WELD 115
115 Entry Level Welding 12 Credit Hours

This course is an introduction into oxy-fuel cutting,
shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding and
gas tungsten arc welding. Machine functions and filler
metal chemistry will be emphasized, as well as code and
procedure requirements for a variety of industrial needs.
Welding/cutting processes covered (including laboratory
applications) include: oxy-fuel cutting (OFC), plasma arc
cutting (PAC), CNC plasma/ace cutting, shield metal arc
welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and
gas metal arc welding (GMAW). GTAW will be completed
on a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
.

WELD 215
215 Advanced Level Welding 12 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: WELD 115 or Pre-tests

This course deals primarily with vertical up, fixed position
pipe welding on a multitude of pipe diameters and pipe
thicknesses. Emphasis is placed on fit-up preparation, code
making organizations and standards, and destructive/nondestructive
pipe welding tests.
