of the Board of the American Welding Society MIAMI, FL – January 26, 2010 – John Bruskotter, an AWS Distinguished Member and a 36-year veteran of the welding industry, has been named as the 2010 President and Chairman of the Board of the American Welding Society (AWS). "At a time when the American Welding Society is growing in both membership and in international recognition, it is an honor to serve as its leader," said Bruskotter. "My goal this year is to focus the importance of welding throughout the world and in growing areas such as the energy and green industries." During his term, Bruskotter will manage the affairs of the Society and will preside at all Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings, as well as the Society’s annual meeting and any special meetings of its members. Bruskotter will also represent the American Welding Society at many of its local Section meetings, and other technical, national and international meetings. Bruskotter began his career in the oil and gas fabrication industry in 1973. He became a certified welder in 1974 and advanced in his profession to fabrication supervisor. In 1989 he became operations manager for a major onshore fabrication and offshore construction company specializing in fabrication of oil and gas production modules, decks, jackets and gas compression packages as well as offshore construction and coatings. In 2000 he opened his own company, Bruskotter Consulting Services, LLC, where he began a career consulting to the oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico. He specializes in prospect development (planning the design, fabrication and installation of platforms and pipelines) and abandonment (planning the removal of platforms and abandonment pipelines) representing the operators and working with engineering design firms and contractors. Bruskotter has been a member of the AWS for over 17 years serving the New Orleans Section in several positions including Chairman. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2000 and represented the 2,850 members of District 9, which includes Southern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Bruskotter and his wife Donna live in Belle Chasse in Plaquemines Parish, La.
